The British are buying up sites to take a quarter of the commercial market of data сenters in Russia

IXcellerate, the British project in Russia, in the presence of Prince Michael of Kent, opened its second data center in Moscow to place client server racks and is going to acquire other four sites for the construction of data centers by February 2020. By 2023, they’re planned to take 15 thousand of racks, what should allow the company to take 25% of the commercial market.

New data centers IXcellerate

IXcellerate, the operator of a network of commercial data processing centers (data centers), is planning to acquire four sites in Moscow within a few months for the construction of new data centers. The purchase of the first site should take place in October 2019. the other three – by February 2020. Such an announcement was made by Dmitry Fokin, managing director of IXcellerate.

At the moment, the first of the existing IXcellerate data centers contains about 1800 server racks of the company's clients. The second – 1480. Four additional places will potentially be able to take about 28 thousand of racks, but Fokin considers that such level of their filling is a very distant prospect. Specific plans of the company until 2023 are to increase client placements up to 15 thousand of racks that has to be approximately 25% of the Russian market of commercial data centers by that time.

Price issue

The volume of investments in the total capacity of the two existing IXcellerate facilities (the first of them started its work in 2013) is estimated by the company as 80 million dollars.

Concerning the use of the four acquired sites, the company has public investment plans for only two of them. IXcellerate intends to invest 230 million dollars in the next two data centers, constructed in the near future.

IXcellerate names more than 100 international and Russian companies as its clients, including Nestle, Thomson Reuters, Orange Business Service, Softline, Agricultural Bank of China, Huawei, Tencent Cloud, Zenlayer.
