J'son & Partners Consulting presented a summary of the research results of the Russian market of legal video services in 2019.
The study introduced a new segmentation and analyzed the revenue of 68 companies: online cinemas (16), TV channels (23), operators (11), digital distribution platforms (2), social networks (5), aggregators and information services (11).
The total revenue of the legal video services market from providing services in Russia amounted to 41.2 billion rubles without VAT (+65.7%) in 2019.
The legal video industry in Russia is increasing its growth rate in rubles. The growth was 32% in 2016 compared to 2015, in 2017 – 42%, in 2018 – 56%, in 2019 – 65.7%. Thanks to that Russia has increased its share in the global legal video market, which amounted to 0.7% in 2019.
In 2019, the advertising showed an increase of 60.1%, and all paid services - 73.2% compared to 2018.
In addition to the factors that appeared in 2019, the impact of events that occurred in February-March 2020 (the coronavirus pandemic and the economic crisis) was taken into account when making a forecast of market development for the near future.
Key development trends of the Russian market of legal video services in the near term: success online video services as part of the ecosystems of large holdings; audience growth on mobile devices; development of vertical format videos; sales from paid monetization; growth of revenue from AD out-stream format; cooperation of paid TV operators, online cinemas, TV channels, social media; production of video content; increase of the volume of content in 4K.
