Cyber threats in healthcare

The number of cyber attacks against organizations in the healthcare industry is increasing and this trend is expected to continue in 2017. According to a report released by the security firm TrapX, criminal organizations are more focused on stealing data to spread ransomware.

Experts say, 31% of all major HIPAA data breaches were caused by sophisticated attacks, a 300% increase over the past three years. Trend Micro's recently published report on "Cybercrime and other threats faced by the healthcare industry", is widely discussed on several medical portals.

Growth of interest in such issues is not surprising: this March the Institute for Internet Development and a number of scientific medical institutions created a Russian Telemedicine Consortium (RTC). Pilot project of telemedicine express mini-clinics starts this May in Moscow, so that people could measure pressure and pulse or donate blood without leaving a shopping mall.

Implementation of IT technologies in medicine increases the demand for such systems that can protect doctors and patients from data leakage. InfoSecurity Russia was visited by 304 representatives of medical organizations in 2016.DLP in Healthcare.jpg
